Everybody is familiar with Dali’s Melting Clocks painting but maybe, its symbolism is not a popular topic among people.
I am one of those people who like Dali’s work, but never really bothered to understand his own concept for every single painting. I used to look at the paintings, trying to figure out their uniqueness by applying my own experience. I always come out with fascinating ideas. Even if these would make sense only to me, still I like them.
But there was always something different about the Melting Clocks. I could not understand how could someone see a world with melting clocks, or in other words, the absence of time. I was in my last ideas to conclude my new theory about time and the Melting Clock, but I figured out to check what Dali really meant. So, I searched, and it was all about the omnipresence of time!
I adore Dali and his way of thinking, but I disagree with him on this issue. Knowing his real idea behind this painting, made me kind of disappointed as I thought I had figured out a more realistic analysis. An explanation that allows me to reach peace with people and myself.
Melting Clocks made me see the reality of our world. I started to understand why people get late for their appointments, why some people never make it on time, and others don’t really have the concept of time.
I thought that Dali had gone through similar experiences and he concluded that time does not exist, because all clocks got melted. So, we need to stop blaming ourselves for being late and be more tolerant while waiting for ages for others to come.
However, since I never give up, I came out with another way to explain why some people, including myself, don’t have any concept of the time.
I recalled an interview I had five years ago with two managers. Both looked so enthusiastic, energetic and excited to meet with me. By the end of the interview, both confirmed that they would come back to me within 14 days, and they told me that they would reply, either way, whether with a negative or a positive response.
So, I waited for an answer. I was open to “You are not qualified for the job”, “Overqualified”, “Your qualifications don’t match our needs”, “You were selected”, or any fancy reply that recruiters use. I was even open to receiving non-fancy replies as well.
Till now, it seems that their 14 days still going. Yes, they have different timing. So, that it is. A difference in time is our problem.
So, if you have an appointment with a friend whose “5 minutes I will be in” actually translates into an hour, then don’t get mad. You simply adjust your clock to your friend’s timing!
That simple.
So, timing is still there and does exist. But every one of us is unique enough to have our own unique timing.
Does this mean due to these timing differences, there is a possibility to go back in time?
Well, I would say yes, but I have not figured it out yet. I may wait for the recruiters of the interview I had five years ago to reach me after their 14-day period is over. To be able to calculate the time difference, and maybe by then, I would figure it out.
